Eurowings Discover to commence flights to the Kruger National Park - further expansion of flight program to Africa

  • Eurowings Discover is the first intercontinental airline ever to start scheduled flights to Mbombela, Kruger National Park
  • Three weekly direct flights from Frankfurt to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP) starting mid-November 2022
  • More flights to Africa than ever before: Two additional weekly flights to Windhoek and Mombasa from Frankfurt

This year, the Lufthansa subsidiary will be the first intercontinental airline ever to start scheduled operations to South Africa's largest National Park. Between November 15, 2022, and March 25, 2023, Eurowings Discover will fly three times a week from Frankfurt to Mbombela, Kruger National Park, with a short stopover in Windhoek. Winter is generally known to be the best time for safaris. Never before has the destination, which is particularly popular with holidaymakers from Germany, been reached faster and more directly.

Spanning some 20,000 km², the Kruger National Park is one of Africa's largest nature and wildlife reserves. In addition to a unique biodiversity, visitors can also experience the ‘Big 5’ - elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffalos and lions - in their natural habitat. Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport offers travelers the ideal gateway to explore not only the National Park but also neighboring Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the Kingdom of Swaziland.

Africa is one of the airline's strongest markets
Since its launch in July 2021, the leisure airline has been constantly expanding its flight schedule to include dream destinations on the African continent. Today, Eurowings Discover already flies travelers from Frankfurt to Mombasa, Zanzibar, Mauritius and Windhoek. In the summer flight schedule 2022, Victoria Falls and Kilimanjaro will be added on the long-haul route, as well as Djerba, Hurghada and Marsa Alam on the medium-haul route. Moreover, weekly flights to Windhoek will be increased from five to seven, and Mombasa will be served four times a week instead of twice a week from summer onwards - both will be year round services. Eurowings Discover is currently the only European airline to offer direct flights to Victoria Falls and Windhoek.

“Africa clearly is one of the most important and strongest markets for us. Our booking figures prove that travelers from all over Europe are increasingly drawn to the vastness and beauty of this continent. As a leisure airline, we are therefore relying on a versatile Africa program this year and will continue to expand it in the future," explains Helmut Woelfel, Chief Commercial Officer of Eurowings Discover.

Flights are bookable via lufthansa.com and on all known booking channels.
