Press release -

Hip Hip Hooray! Eurowings Discover celebrates its first birthday

In the midst of its first real summer, which is also particularly challenging, Lufthansa's leisure airline turns one year old. On July 24, 2021, the first Eurowings Discover flight took off under flight number 4Y134 from Frankfurt to Mombasa with onward service to Zanzibar.

A lot has happened in these 365 days:

  • One weekly flight from Frankfurt to Mombasa/Zanzibar has now grown into around 160 weekly departures from the two home bases of Frankfurt and Munich.
  • A limited long-haul network has grown into an impressive flight schedule with more than 40 destinations worldwide - on short-, medium- and long-haul routes.
  • The airline's first Airbus A330 has been joined by a further 16 aircraft, nine Airbus A330s and seven Airbus A320s.
  • A few hundred passengers have become more than a million guests. Passenger No. 1 million was personally welcomed on board by CEO and pilot Wolfgang Raebiger in early July.
  • The Eurowings Discover team has grown from a handful of employees to 1,300 in the cockpit, cabin and administration.

And the youngest Lufthansa Group member also has a lot in store for the coming months. Eurowings Discover's own fleet is growing to a total of 21 aircraft (11 A330s, 10 A320s), new colleagues are being recruited in all areas and new destinations are being added to the flight schedule.
