Eurowings Discover takes off to more dream destinations and opens base in Munich

  • First flights from Frankfurt to Kilimanjaro, Anchorage, Halifax and Calgary
  • Opening of short-haul base in Munich and further growth of fleet by end of year
  • From Munich to many destinations in Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Spain

As planned, the leisure carrier Eurowings Discover is further expanding its flight offerings over the next three months.

Africa fans can look forward to another unique destination: from June 3, the airline will be flying to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania twice a week all year round, making it the only direct connection from Europe’s German speaking-region. In mid-June, the Canadian port city of Halifax as well as Anchorage in Alaska will be added to the flight schedule in Frankfurt. From August, the Canada program will be expanded to include Calgary. All of Eurowings Discover's North American and Canadian destinations are offered together with its joint venture partners Air Canada and United Airlines.

The newly added long-haul flights at a glance

  • Frankfurt - Kilimanjaro (JRO): 2x weekly, Monday & Friday; all year round from June 3
  • Frankfurt - Halifax (YHZ): 2x weekly, Thursday & Sunday; June 12 until end of September 2022
  • Frankfurt - Anchorage (ANC): 3x weekly, Monday, Thursday & Saturday; June 13 to September 10, 2022
  • Frankfurt - Calgary (YYC): 4x weekly, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday; August 1 to end of October 2022

Second home: opening of short-haul base in Munich

Less than a year after Eurowings Discover took off on its inaugural flight in July 2021, Lufthansa's leisure carrier is now opening its own short-haul base at Munich Airport. The airline will fly from Terminal 1 in Munich, where both, the check-in counters (Z127 - Z138) and the airline's offices are located.

Since March 2022, the leisure carrier has been flying out of Munich to three long-haul destinations. Since May, Air Baltic has been operating short- and medium-haul flights as a wetlease for Eurowings Discover. On June 1, the first Airbus A320 of the airline finally takes off from Munich. In August, two more Airbus A320 will join the fleet, which will grow to five short-haul aircraft by the end of the year. The existing flight schedule will be expanded over the next two months to include the Greek destinations of Samos, Rhodes, Chania and Zakynthos, as well as Bodrum and Antalya in Turkey, and Hurghada, Egypt, and Ibiza, Spain.

The flights can be booked at lufthansa.com, as well as at all German tour operators and travel agencies.
