Ulrich Lindner appointed new CEO of Discover Airlines

  • Ulrich Lindner will take up his new position on December 1, 2025
  • Bernd Bauer will focus fully on his role as CEO of Edelweiss again
  • Heiko Reitz: “I would like to thank Bernd Bauer for his outstanding commitment.”

Ulrich Lindner will become the new CEO of Discover Airlines on December 1, 2025. He will take over from Bernd Bauer, who currently holds the dual role of CEO of the two Lufthansa Group leisure airlines Discover Airlines and Edelweiss in Switzerland.

In view of the size of Discover Airlines and Edelweiss and their future development, the two companies will return to being managed separately in the future. Over the past three years, Bernd Bauer has used his expertise to further build up Discover Airlines, stabilize it operationally and commercially, and successfully lead it to profitability. The handover will take place gradually in November, before Bernd Bauer returns to focusing fully on his role as CEO of Edelweiss on December 1.

Ulrich Lindner currently heads the Offer Steering and Ancillaries division for the Lufthansa Group. Together with his team, he develops tailor-made commercial offers for global markets, taking into account different customer groups, needs, and purchasing behavior. Revenue management plays a central role in this process, contributing significantly to the optimization of offers with targeted pricing and control instruments. He began his career at the Lufthansa Group over 25 years ago. During this time, he has held numerous management positions in various areas. For example, he was responsible for long-haul network planning for all of the Group's passenger airlines, held commercial responsibility for Lufthansa Aviation Training, and held various management positions in controlling. Ulrich Lindner studied business administration. He is married and has three children.

In October 2022, Bernd Bauer took on the role of CEO of Discover Airlines in addition to his position as CEO of Edelweiss. Under his leadership, Discover Airlines has grown significantly, established itself as a major player in the leisure and private travel market, and achieved consistently high customer satisfaction ratings. During this time, the airline has revamped its brand image, massively expanded its route network, and very successfully opened its second home base in Munich. The airline was founded in 2021 and modeled after Edelweiss. Discover Airlines is headquartered in Frankfurt, currently operates a fleet of 30 aircraft, and employs around 2,100 people. Bernd Bauer has been CEO of the airline Edelweiss in Switzerland since 2014.

Heiko Reitz, member of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Discover Airlines, says:

"I am delighted that Ulrich Lindner, an experienced and accomplished airline expert, is taking over the management of Discover Airlines. With his extensive expertise in the commercial sector, he will continue the highly successful journey of Discover Airlines and drive the airline's growth with new aircraft, new destinations, and an expanding team. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Bernd Bauer for his outstanding commitment to Discover Airlines. The fact that the airline not only has enthusiastic guests but is also financially successful today, just four years after its founding, is largely thanks to him. I am delighted that Bernd Bauer will continue to contribute his expertise as CEO of Edelweiss, Switzerland's leading holiday airline."
