New Destinations in the North: Discover Airlines expands its Finland network

• Savonlinna in the summer and Kajaani in the winter—each the only direct flight from Frankfurt
• More options than ever before: Eight destinations and about 20 weekly flights to the Nordic countries starting in 2027
• Seasonally tailored connections for a variety of nature and travel experiences year-round

The leisure airline Discover Airlines is further expanding its Nordics network and will add two new destinations in Finland to its flight schedule starting in 2027: Savonlinna in the summer and Kajaani in the winter. Both destinations are located in eastern Finland and showcase the country’s diverse landscapes—from the unique lake region in the southeast to the vast natural areas of northeastern Finland.

With these new routes, Discover Airlines will offer even more options for travel to the Nordic countries. In total, travelers will then have access to eight destinations in Iceland, Norway, and Finnish Lapland, as well as approximately 20 weekly flights from Frankfurt and Munich.

Diverse nature and activities in every season

Starting in mid-June 2027, Discover Airlines will offer the only direct flight from Frankfurt to Savonlinna every Saturday evening as a night flight. The city is located on Finland’s largest lake and is ideal for those seeking relaxation and outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, visitors can also experience the unique atmosphere of the “white nights”: Around midsummer, the sun barely sets—or not at all—so travelers can still enjoy daylight even if they arrive at night.

Starting in December 2027, the seasonal service to Savonlinna will be replaced by a weekly winter service to Kajaani. The flight from Frankfurt departs every Friday. In winter, the city offers numerous outdoor activities, the Northern Lights, and experiences made possible only by the Finnish lake landscape—such as floating saunas.

Flights to Savonlinna can be booked at discover-airlines.com, lufthansa.com, as well as through all German tour operators and at travel agencies. Tickets for flights to Kajaani will be available starting in December 2026.
