New culinary star in the sky: Discover Airlines serves dishes from young star chef on board
- Lukas Jakobi is a newcomer to the German culinary scene
- Dishes will fly on short- and long-haul flights from Frankfurt and Munich from 1 December for one year
- Lukas Jakobi: “Discover Airlines is young, authentic, a cordial host, and focused on quality. That’s exactly my vibe.”
From 1 December, Discover Airlines will be serving its guests in Business Class on short- and long-haul flights creations by Michelin-starred chef Lukas Jakobi. Guests on flights from Frankfurt and Munich can look forward to dishes from his kitchen created especially for the airline for a whole year.
The 30-year-old is a shooting star of the German culinary scene. He opened his restaurant ‘Zwanzig23’ in Düsseldorf in October 2023 and just a few months later, in March 2024, was awarded a Michelin star and the Green Star, which recognizes particularly sustainable concepts. He has also received three black toques in Gault&Millau and numerous other awards. Jakobi stands for creative, modern cuisine that is characterized by seasonal and regional ingredients and a zero-waste philosophy.
Authentic, young and cordial
“Lukas Jakobi has impressed us right from the start with his unconventional style and cuisine. Working with him and our partner Gate Gourmet to develop the menus was inspiring and great fun. Our aim was to provide an extraordinary culinary experience that surprises, invites guests to explore and offers them a special moment of delight while travelling. With Lukas Jakobi, we've brought one of the industry's top experts on board to support us,” says Patrick Door, responsible for the onboard product at Discover Airlines.
“Collaborating with an airline, working with a commercial kitchen, designing menus that work according to their very own rules at an altitude of 10,000 meters - something completely new for me. It's exactly these kinds of challenges that appeal to me. What I like about Discover Airlines: they are young, authentic, a cordial host and focus on quality. That’s exactly my vibe. Knowing that my menus are now being served so high above the clouds is a cool feeling,” says Lukas Jakobi.
Lukas Jakobi has designed starters, main courses and desserts for Discover Airlines. For example, guests can look forward to salmon trout tataki with kimchi, root vegetables and parsley mayonnaise as a starter or herb couscous with oriental spinach, nuts and spiced yoghurt, accompanied by miso eggplant with ratatouille and rosemary potato as a main course. During the Christmas season, baked apple with caramelized chocolate cream will be served. In addition to Lukas Jakobi's creations, guests can look forward to many other dishes to choose from.
